Water Heater in Chicago: what to know
Chicago winters are long and cold, with sub-freezing stretches and lake-effect snow, followed by warm, humid summers. Two-flats, bungalows and older brick homes are common, many with basements that need attention during spring thaws and heavy rain.
- Incoming water is colder in winter, so an aging water heater often fails during the coldest months.
- Most tank water heaters last about 8 to 12 years; rusty water or moisture at the base are warning signs.
