Heating in Philadelphia: what to know
Philadelphia has cold winters with occasional snow and hot, humid summers. Rowhomes are everywhere, many over 100 years old, with shared walls, flat roofs and older plumbing and electrical systems.
- Winters are long, so furnaces and boilers should be serviced every fall; carbon monoxide detectors are essential.
- Keep exterior vents and heat pump units clear of snow to prevent shutdowns.
- Radiator and boiler systems are common and need bleeding, balancing and regular service.
